Welcome to L.E.A.R.N.!

L.E.A.R.N./MTSU BASKETBALL CLINIC 2009:
On Saturday, November 7th, 2009. 58 Special Athletes from Rutherford, Williamson and Maury Counties participated in the 2nd Annual L.E.A.R.N./MTSU Basketball Clinic at Sports Com in Murfreesboro. Athletes with special needs were invited to attend the free clinic and were thrilled to have the opportunity to interact with the MTSU Basketball Team. MTSU Coach Kermit Davis, Assistant Coach Win Case and 18 players from the Blue Raider team welcomed the athletes and then led them in some warm-up exercises. Athletes were then divided into four skill groups and the Raider players taught each group dribbling, foul shots, passing, and perimeter shooting. After completing the skills, each athlete participated in scrimmage games with assistance from the MTSU players and Assistant Coach Case. After the scrimmage games, Sonya and Tricia presented Assistant Coach Win Case and his players with a framed Certificate of Appreciation and basketball medals. Then Assistant Coach Case and the MTSU players helped Sonya and Tricia award each athlete with their own basketball medal. Athletes then received either a MTSU poster or magnet courtesy of MTSU. All the athletes and MTSU coaches and players had a great time, which was evident from the smiles on their faces!
L.E.A.R.N. would like to thank all
the athletes who participated, the families, volunteers,
Special Olympics, and Sports Com for making this year’s clinic
a big success. A special thanks to the MTSU coaches and
players for their enthusiasm and support of this event.
We look forward to next year’s clinic.
LEARN - MTSU Basketball Clinic
2008
Our first
Basketball Clinic was a HUGE success thanks to the athletes
that attended.

On a day full of sunshine and blue skies, 44 very Special Athletes converged on McKnight Park’s Sports*Com to attend our First Annual Basketball Clinic held on November 8th 2008. The clinic was a HUGE success thanks to the athletes that attended and the participation of Kermit Davis’s MTSU Blue Raider

Basketball Team and Assistant
Coach Win Case.
As each athlete entered the gym they were welcomed by Dave, Sonya, and Tricia. They were registered and assigned to their skill station groups. The clinic began with surprised expressions and big smiles on the faces of all the athletes as they watched the MTSU Blue Raider team walk into the facility. Then Coach Win Case and his team led the kids through a series of basic warm-up stretching exercises. After the warm-up, the athletes were divided into 4 groups. Each group was taught the following skills by the Raiders: Foul Shots, Perimeter Shooting, Dribbling, and Passing. After completing the skills, each

athlete participated in interactive scrimmages with the MTSU
players. Throughout the skill building sessions, Win Case and
his players interacted with the kids with enthusiasm,
excitement and a lot of fun. At the end of the Clinic,
MTSU
players presented each of the participants with a special
Basketball Medal. Posters were given out and autographed by
MTSU players. Coach Win Case also passed out some free
basketballs to the kids. WOW, did that make their day!
L.E.A.R.N. gave a basketball signed by the athletes to Coach Case and the MTSU players. We also presented a plaque to them which included a group picture and thanked them for their support. As the clinic came to a close, both athletes and the MTSU team agreed that we should have the clinic again next year.

Special thanks
to Bart Fite, Facility Superintendent of Sports*Com and the
City of Murfreesboro Parks & Recreation, for allowing us the
opportunity to schedule our clinic in their outstanding
facility. Thanks to John Harris and Lou Paschal, co
directors of Rutherford County Special Olympics for their
support. Thanks to the Special Olympic
athletes from other areas who participated. We want to thank
all the parents, volunteers and group leaders: Dylan, Kurt,
Patti, Carla. Thanks Linda, Amanda, Josh, and Kristina
for the great job they did as our Pep Squad. Also,
Roy and Tim for their excellent photography.
Finally, a big thank you to MTSU Head Coach Kermit Davis and Dave Davis, who did a great job putting the clinic together.
A special
thank you to Coach Win Case. We want everyone to know how
impressed we were with Coach Win Case and how he was an
inspiration to all of our athletes.
We hope to see everyone again in November 2009!
