leading us and donating all the ceramics and supplies!
On May 21st L.E.A.R.N.
held a craft class held by Alex's mom, Carla Maye. Everyone
had
a great time getting their fingers inky! Carla taught us to
make all sorts of figures using our fingerprints and ink pads.
We made greeting cards for friends and family with all sorts of
amazing designs. The kids (and adults) did a great job! Class
participants were Amanda Amsler, Zack Craig, Eric Davis, and
Alex Maye. A big thank you goes to Carla Maye for teaching us
and donating all the supplies and materials for the class!

Cooking 101:
(Age 14 and up)
Cooking Home Page
Introduction to cooking. We will be learning the very
basics in this course: the proper uses for pots, pans, and
utensils and will learn about kitchen appliances, appliance
safety and their functions and how to measure and follow a
simple recipe.

Our participants had a chance to practice their cooking skills the last two sessions of the class. Each participant had an opportunity to prepare and cook a chicken and cheese quesadilla and a grilled cheese sandwich in an electric skillet. They also baked French fries in a toaster oven and cooked green beans using a hot plate. They also learned about nutrition and how to set a table. To practice their cooking terms, the participants were asked to come up with different names or phrases they had learned and played a lively game of hangman.
They all enjoyed trying to stump each other. At
the end of the last class, Zack Craig, Eric Davis, Cheree
Finchum, Jamyson Hale, and Christopher Lacy received a
certificate of participation. Dylan Craig also received a
certificate for being a volunteer. Congratulations to all
of you! You all did a great job!
Job Skills: (Age 14 and up)
(Registration Closed) Class Full
Class started on 07/10/08 and the
first day was a
fantastic success, everyone was ready and eager to
start.
We
will attempt to learn some of the more common job skills
required of our students such as: stocking groceries, sacking
groceries, pizza box folding, order picking, small parts
assembly, napkin/eating utensil rolling, and emptying
trash/cleaning dining areas.
07/17/08 We covered several topics including: being on
time for work, time clock procedures, and staying on task.
Thanks to Pizza Hut,
Papa Johns, and Dominos, who donated the pizza boxes, our
students were able to learn and practice the skill of pizza box
folding. Everyone did a wonderful job.
07/24/08 We had another great class last night. The
students were taught what is required to be a stocker at a
grocery store. They learned the importance of reading food
labels, UPC codes, and expiration dates on various products.
All the students did a great job stocking a variety of items in Dave's Mart, our grocery store.
