2008 First Annual Camping Trip

Well, its official, our first Annual Camp Outing was a complete success, we actually stayed dry.  We had 18 campers who participated and escaped all the thunderstorms that were evident in the threatening skies surrounding our campsite to the east and north of us.  Saturday and Sunday both turned out to be beautiful days.  We went boating, fishing and swimming.  The campsites were very nice and I definitely think that Seven Points is one of the better Camp Grounds that I have been to.

Here are a few of the comments we got from our most Special Campers as we sat around Patti and Cheree’s campfire Saturday night.

Amanda said “I like fishing and boating the best” and boy she is quite the fisher lady.

I believe that Amanda has fishing in her blood as was attested to by her mother Linda.  Linda brought her family, her husband Dallas, Christina her daughter, as well as Christina’s friend Tobias, who is an exchange student visiting from Bolivia.

When Christopher was asked what his favorite part of the camping trip was he said, “I liked being with my friends, fishing, meeting Amanda and her mom Linda, and making s’mores with everyone around the campfire.”

Christopher ended up catching one of the bigger fish on the last day.  He was so ecstatic and I was so relieved.  I really wanted to make sure every one of our Special Campers caught a fish and was afraid that Christopher and Marvin would be the only two not to catch one.  So on the last day of our campout we decided to try again and sure enough Christopher caught one of the biggest fish of the trip and Marvin caught one as well, mission accomplished.

When I asked what he liked the most about our campout Eric said, “Grilling out hotdogs and burgers and eating s’mores”.  I thought we would have to take a shower after the s’mores.

Josh said “I like fishing the most, I caught 5 fish”.  Fishing is definitely in Josh’s blood. Josh’s mom Maureen and her niece Kirsten also camped with us.  Kirsten said she liked boating the best.

Justin and his mom Robin camped out as well. Justin caught some fish on the first day we tried.

Marvin and his parents Brice and Geri camped out with us, also.  Marvin pretty much liked everything.  He went swimming with Eric, Cheree and Kirsten and had a good time.  When asked the Robinson family said, “We had a wonderful time and would love to do this again soon.”

The Robinson’s were not the only family to feel that way.  A random poll was taken on Sunday afternoon after everyone’s campsites were broken down and the overwhelming response was for L.E.A.R.N. to have another camping trip.  We will be discussing this at future L.E.A.R.N. meetings and look forward to planning our next camping trip.  We hope everyone can join us!
